Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman gave out the Best Director Oscar to Clint Eastwood at the 77th Academy Awards, which aired on ABC. After, Barbra changed into a black tuxedo suit and attended the Governors Ball dinner with her husband, James Brolin.

Barbra recorded a video for “Children and Art,” a salute to Stephen Sondheim’s 75th birthday at New York’s New Amsterdam Theatre. Barbra, with her dog Sammy growling in the background, remembered the weekend she spent with Sondheim while he rewrote the lyrics for "Putting It Together" — on her 1985 Broadway Album. “Stephen, I'll never forget the time I kept you prisoner in my Malibu house so you could write eight new rhymes for ‘Putting It Together.’”

Army Archerd reported that Barwood Films had acquired the rights to Mendel's Dwarf, a novel by Simon Mawer about a scientist (to be played by Peter Dinklage) who struggles to unravel the genetic secrets of achondroplasia (dwarfism) as well as his entangled relationship with a woman.  Streisand said she was attracted to the project because it “uniquely combined elements of science, fantasy and the brave new world of genetic research. It explores the future of humanity, eugenics, the existence of God as well as the meaning of true love and acceptance.”

Warner Brothers Home Video announced the release of A Star is Born on DVD, but delayed the DVD until 2006.

Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty cohosted a star-studded evening of Stephen Sondheim music at the Hollywood Bowl, an ASCAP-sponsored event honoring the esteemed composer and lyricist on his 75th birthday. Ms. Streisand, joined by Beatty and ASCAP President Marilyn Bergman, presented the culminating award to the composer at the end of the concert. She was greeted, upon her introduction, with a standing ovation from the 18,000-person audience who then joined her in singing “Happy Birthday” to the evening's honoree.

Warner Strategic Marketing released the DVD box set Barbra Streisand: The Television Specials.  For the first time ever, fans could own My Name is Barbra, Color Me Barbra, The Belle of 14th Street, A Happening in Central Park, and Other Musical Instruments. The box set sold 5X Platinum by January 2006.

TV Land premiered TV Guide and TV Land Present: The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments. Barbra crashing “Coffee Talk” on Saturday Night Live was voted Number 20 on the "Most Unexpected TV Moment" list.
