Barbra Streisand appeared in person at The GRAMMY Museum® at L.A. LIVE. Presented by American Express, A Conversation With Barbra Streisand was moderated by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli.


Highlights were:


  • On her drive: “It's a combination of confidence and enormous self-doubt. You're always afraid that you're not good enough but you know you have the vision. You can see yourself doing it and you have to make it happen."
  • Billboard says Barbra has turned to writing her memoir because “there's no money to continue making the films she so wants to make.”
  • “It’s frustrating to make movies nowadays,” she said. “I can’t control it.”
  • For her memoir, Barbra is looking back at 20 or so journals that she has kept going back 25 to 30 years.
  • When recording, Barbra only likes to do a maximum of four vocal takes.

Women and men marched peacefully in solidarity for the protection of their rights, their safety, their health, and their families — recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country. Marches held in more than 500 U.S. cities were attended by at least 3.3 million people. This event was possibly the largest demonstration in U.S. history.


In Los Angeles, Barbra Streisand participated in the march. Introduced by Rufus Wainwright, Barbra appeared on stage and made a speech. Barbra also posed for several “selfies” with her fellow marchers.

It’s announced that Streisand would sing two more concerts at Nassau Coliseum and Barclays Center on May 4 and May 6.

Barbra Streisand's signature song, “People,” has been deemed worthy of preservation as part of America's heritage by the Library of Congress.


Time Magazine reports, “These recordings are among 25 new additions to the Library's National Recording Registry, which preserves an ever-expanding list of sound recordings because they are recognized to be ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.’' The new additions bring the total number of titles on the registry to 475.”


“It is so humbling and gratifying to learn that my recording of the song ‘People’ by composer Jule Styne and lyricist Bob Merrill will be installed in the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress,” said Streisand in a statement. “I believe ‘People’ touched our common desire to relate to others with love and caring, and I’ve always tried to express this in my renditions of this magical song.”

Barbra Streisand celebrated her 75th birthday surrounded by her family, good friends, colleagues, and more at Rande Gerber's Malibu restaurant Cafe Habana.


Attending were Barbra’s sister Roslyn Kind and son Jason Gould. Also: Rande Gerber’s wife Cindy Crawford, David Foster, Pierce Brosnan, Josh Brolin and James Brolin, Quincy Jones, Richard Marx, his wife Daisy Fuentes, Rosanna Arquette, and Katharine McPhee. Also, Donna Karan, photographer Russell James, and Carole Bayer Sager. Marilyn and Alan Bergman attended as well.


Team Barbra was there: Marty Erlichman, Jay Landers, Richard Jay-Alexander, and Tracy Quinn.


John Mayer and Babyface (Kenny Edmonds) sang for Barbra — Edmonds sang “Evergreen.” Also, magician Jon Dorenbos performed magic for the crowd.

Streisand appears on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter and gives a rare interview.


Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter both post that Barbra Streisand will join Ryan Murphy’s satirical comedy/musical, The Politician, to air on Netflix. It’s later revealed that Streisand turns down the role to work on her album, Walls.  The rumor of Streisand being in the cast is repeated up until The Politician actually airs.

Barbra Streisand appears in person at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles at the opening of PaleyFest. Interviewed by Ryan Murphy, the two-hour evening featured many clips from her 1960s television specials.

Barbra Streisand is interviewed by Jamie Foxx onstage at Netflix’s FYSEE at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles. It is also announced by Netflix that My Name Is Barbra (1965), Color Me Barbra (1966), Barbra Streisand: A Happening in Central Park (1968), Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments (1973), Barbra Streisand: The Concert (1994), and Barbra Streisand: Timeless (2001) and a special edit of her 1976 film A Star Is Born will stream on the service.

Columbia Records announces Barbra’s next album, Walls, will be released November 2nd. Her single, “Don’t Lie To Me,” is released today, too.

The dance mix of Barbra’s single, “Don't Lie to Me” (by Dave Aude) debuts on the Billboard Dance chart October 20, 2018. By January 2019, it has peaked at #8, although it fell back to #18 on the January 26, 2019 chart.

Barbra Streisand accepts an award for her environmental activism at the annual Hollywood for Science Gala, presented by the UCLA Institute of the Environment & Sustainability (IoES). Gisele Bündchen was also honored. Celebs spotted at the event were: Josh Brolin and wife Kathryn Brolin; Patricia Arquette; Angelica Houston; Norman Lear; Ceelo Green; Gerard Butler; and Donna Karan.

Barbra Streisand stages an amazing outdoor concert at London’s Hyde Park as part of the British Summertime concert series presented by Barclaycard. She announces two more U.S. concerts at Madison Square Garden and Chicago’s United Center in August 2019 — her last shows to date ahead of the debilitating global pandemic.

It was announced today that Barbra Streisand’s 1968 film debut Funny Girl was selected to be added to The National Film Registry.


The Librarian of Congress chooses the list each year after consulting with members of the National Film Preservation Board and Library specialists. All of the films added to the registry must be at least 10 years old.


“Motion pictures document our history and culture and serve as a mirror of our collective experiences,” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement. “The National Film Registry embraces the richness and diversity of film as an art form and celebrates the people who create the magic of cinema.”

Barbra Streisand’s face (a portrait by pop artist Richard Bernstein) appears on chic new Coach Originals bags and ready-to-wear pieces — T-shirts and sweatshirts. Celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Mila Kunis, and Selma Blair were photographed sporting the Coach Streisand Look. 


Barbra seems tickled by the whole thing. She Tweeted, “Love this! Hi @jlo — nice to see you wearing my face!”

In interview transcripts that were auctioned, Bob Dylan admits that his song “Lay Lady Lay” was not written for the movie Midnight Cowboy, but for Barbra Streisand! “I'm very flattered to find out that Bob Dylan wrote ‘Lay Lady Lay’ for me,” Streisand told NBC News. “What I remember is getting flowers from him with a handwritten note asking me to sing a duet with him, but I just couldn't imagine it then. Guess what, Bob, I can imagine doing it now!”
