Barbra Streisand attended an event at the home of Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan (The Mirror Has Two Faces and 12 Years a Slave) which honored Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Mrs. Sarah Netanyahu.

A 1960s photo of Barbra appeared on the cover of New York magazine — “A Century of Pop Music in New York.” Inside, the magazine used an old quote from Barbra about her name and Brooklyn. Streisand wrote to the magazine to clear things up: “The truth is I didn't want to change anything about myself like my nose, my teeth, my clothes, whatever. But I wanted to have something original, so I took out the second ‘a’ from Barbara and became Barbra, which is the same name only without an A, and it looked a bit different and unique.”

Streisand attended the Elephant Crisis Fund Gala in Malibu, Los Angeles, held at the La Villa Contenta estate to benefit the Elephant Crisis Fund, co-hosted by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and Mark Wahlberg. Attendees were able to enjoy a farm to table feast and African-inspired cocktails.

Barbra visits Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., to bring her passion for women’s heart disease to the forefront. She met with Sen. Richard Durbin, Sen. John McCain, Rep. Steny Hoyer and other congressional leaders. Barbra also met with senior officials from National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Her message was clear: “Heart disease is the number one killer of women, killing more women than all cancers combined. Since 1984, more women than men have died every year from heart disease. It's time for more funding, more research, and more attention for women's heart disease,” said Streisand.

Singer-songwriter Richard Marx was on the Today Show and spoke about Streisand (he wrote “If You Ever Leave Me” for her). Talking about his big solo hit, “Right Here Waiting,” Marx said: “I tried to give that song away to Barbra Streisand. She's the sweetest thing in the world, and we're friends, and I've worked with her since then. I still have the voice mail message that she left me when I sent her that song, which was, ‘Richard I loved, loved, loved this melody, it's gorgeous, but I'm gonna need you to rewrite the lyrics, cause I'm not gonna be right here waiting for anybody!’”

Streisand tells the L.A. Times: “It was nice to be playing on Broadway in two shows without having to leave my house.” She was jokingly referring to “I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers,” which starred Bette Midler; and Jonatha Tolins’ one man play, “Buyer and Cellar” — a “what if” play starring Michael Urie as a man who works in Streisand’s basement mall.

Barbra pre-recorded a thank you segment for the last episode of Katie Couric's daytime talk show. Barbra said to Katie: “I want to thank you for giving a boost to so many causes for women. And for inviting women to my website to learn about protecting themselves against heart disease. I really appreciate that. Sending you lots of love and light.”

Lauren Bacall and Robin Williams died.  Streisand posted: “What a terrible loss for us all. First Robin who was a genius and now Lauren. It was my privilege to have known her, to have acted with her, and to have directed her. And, most of all, to have had her as a wise and loving friend. She was an original. Even with all those great films we can visit again and again, she will be missed.”

Barbra Streisand attended the fundraiser for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) 2014 Western Region Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Hollywood to honor Israeli soldiers and the Defense Establishment.


“This event is always one of the most inspiring and emotional evenings of the year,” said Streisand. “The soldiers of the IDF deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for all that they sacrifice to protect Israel, the only democratic state in the region.”

The art book publisher Taschen released Barbra, a large-format photo book filled with rare and high-quality photographs of Streisand by Steve Schapiro and Lawrence Schiller. Streisand told People magazine: “It is a very big book, and I haven't had time to look at every page. But the artful photographs bring back some great memories.”

At the BAFTA Tribute to Terry Rawlings, Streisand sent an audio recording to honor her Yentl editor. “Dear Terry, what a wonderful time we had making Yentl. After a day’s shooting, going into the editing room and working with you and you always making me laugh with such pleasure at your gifts as an editor and your delicious personality. Much love to you Terry, Barbra.”
