ABOUT THE ALBUM:

Released in 1965 by Columbia records — which had the largest catalog of Broadway show albums — The Magic of Musical Comedy featured theater critic Lee Jordan interviewing the stars of the musical comedy stage and drew from Columbia Records' substantial Broadway discography, including songs from Camelot, Bye Bye Birdie , and I Can Get It For You Wholesale . The album was billed as “58 years of musical comedy from The Merry Widow (1907) to Do I Hear A Waltz? (1965)”.

Lee Jordan was employed by Columbia Broadcasting System, and D.J.'d a Sunday morning radio show on which he played show tunes.

According to a 1966 Billboard story, the LP “was sent to [radio] stations to supplement general promotion.”

On the album, Jordan interviews Streisand backstage at the Shubert Theatre during her run in Wholesale in 1962.
