Michael Bublé and Barbra Streisand sing a duet on his 2014 Christmas special.

Barbra Streisand, Ariana Grande, Miss Piggy and the Rockettes joined Bublé for an hour-long celebration of Christmas originating from the storied Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Bublé said, “Working with Barbra Streisand is, of course, a career highlight. I got to meet her and really spend time with her when we were doing her duets record. I never would have imagined that I would be lucky enough to have her come and guest on this Christmas special. You can imagine how awesome that made me feel, that she liked me and cared about me enough to come and do this. We were completely connected, we were present and in the moment together. Honestly, I love her. Obviously, she's Barbra Streisand. She's got the greatest gift ever. Her voice is amazing, she tells a story like no one else. But she's funny.”

Barbra's segment with Michael Bublé came toward the end of the show. On a snow-covered set, Bublé introduced her: “The greatest that ever was, the greatest that is, and the greatest that ever will be. Please welcome the one and only, Miss Barbra Streisand.”

Together they sang a duet of “It Had To Be You,” with specially-tailored lyrics for the holiday season.

Special lyrics to
“It Had To Be You”

Jay Landers contributed these special lyrics to the television duet:

Barbra:

Winter dreams like I’ve always had

Could be…should be…makin’ me glad

Color me blue

Here without you Christmas day

Michael:

I’m thinking twinkling lights and holiday cheer

Don’t feel…won’t feel right ‘til you’re near

It’s you I need…and what I’m meaning to say…

And at the end of the song ...

For nobody else gave me a thrill

This holiday

Barbra, I love you still

Ahhh, singing with you

Was my pleasure too ...

It had to be you ....

Landers told All About Barbra magazine that the idea to tailor the lyrics came from Bublé. “It was quite spontaneous ... Surrounded by all the snow and twinklying lights, Barbra wondered aloud, ‘Wouldn't it be great if we had some special lyrics to tie it into the holidays?’ ... It's very much like Barbra to look for context in the songs she's performing.”

Jay Landers took out his laptop and wrote some special lyrics right there on the set.
