“We Are the World 25 for Haiti” (2010)

The video for “We Are The World 25” debuted on NBC before the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics on Friday, February 12th, 2010. It was an edited, shorter version of the complete video (13:54 minutes), which was available for download at iTunes. (The video was never released on DVD).

Barbra Streisand's part of the song came right after Michael Jackson's posthumous solo. Streisand also appeared several times in long- and medium-shots of the group of musicians and singers as they sang the chorus.

The artists who participated in the recording gathered on February 1, 2010 to record it at Henson Recording Studios (formerly A&M Recording Studios) in Los Angeles. “Is there room for another person?” Streisand asked Quincy Jones, producer, when she arrived. He laughed. “I’ve known you since you were 16!” he declared. Later, Streisand, noting that director Paul Haggis was filming live in 3D, laughed and asked, “How will my nose look in 3D?”

Quincy Jones, producer, and Lionel Richie, co-writer, of the iconic 1985 philanthropic anthem "We Are The World," collaborated with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti. This production was made possible through financial support from Visa Inc.

Barbra's A&R man, Jay Landers, later responded to press reports that Barbra was coached when she recorded her vocal: “Barbra hit it on her first take, but then asked Patti Austin, who was producing the vocal session, if she could do a few more to see what else she might come up with. Patti thought the first take was perfect, and she thought the fourth one was more perfect. They stopped at ‘more perfect.’”
