About the Album

The Original Soundtrack Recording of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever was released by Columbia Records in 1970, to coincide with Paramount’s release of the film starring Barbra Streisand.

Columbia gave the album a handsome release – it was gatefold in design, with black and white photos inside, and a summary of the story.

When the CD era arrived, On A Clear Day was released in the format around 1989. The sound was probably taken from the original LP master because it featured a lot of reverb on Streisand's vocals. Also, the "click" of Streisand's heels in "What Did I Have that I Don't Have" was very pronounced on the 1989 disc.

Clear Day was then restored and remastered on CD for the first time in October 1993 as part of Columbia Records' 11 Essential Barbra Streisand Releases. The master tapes were prepared for release by John Arrias (who put together the masters for Just For The Record). According to Columbia's publicity:

The objective with each album was to restore the tapes to the quality of the original master recording. To do this in some cases, 30 years of noise had to be eliminated. John used his proprietary C.A.P. Noise Reduction System to eliminate hiss, distortion and noise. In each case great care was taken to maintain the integrity of the original albums.

Columbia also recreated the CD packages using the original art or printing film.
