The Concert — San Jose, CA (1994)

1994 Concert Tour

San Jose, Calif.
San Jose Arena

June 7, 9, 1994
Barbra Streisand—despite a bout with laryngitis that forced her to reschedule some California shows—still turned in an amazing opening night performance when The Concert premiered in San Jose on June 7, 1994.

Donald Farrell, a fan who attended the first show, recalled that “Barbra coughed several times during the speaking parts of the first show. She said she had a tickle from her illness. But she didn’t cough during her songs. She sipped a lot of tea.”

On her first night in San Jose Barbra dropped “Ordinary Miracles” from the show. She repeated the Top Ten list but changed #1 on June 9th: “They were having a shoe sale at Nordstrom’s.” She also told the San Jose audience at the final show, “I will have fond memories of San Jose and I found my way.”

“.... her voice was in command – of the show, the cavernous Arena. It was supple yet infused with an almost aching grandness. It was warmly human, endowed with an elasticity of range and feeling that were astonishing.”
